This captivating Akaraku (Red Raku) tea bowl, crafted by 7th-generation master Kawasaki Waraku (b. 1936), embodies the heart of Kyoto Raku tradition. As head of the historic Waraku kiln, Waraku continues a legacy built on the philosophy of "One and Only"—where each piece is hand-shaped, never wheel-thrown, and utterly unique.
Delicate pine-like branches and sprouting leaves flow naturally across the surface, brushed with a free, organic touch. Gold flakes shimmer softly, like sunlight through new growth. More than a reference to nature, the name evokes resilience, renewal, and quiet strength—with pine (matsu) symbolizing longevity and the seedling representing hopeful beginnings.
This tea bowl comes housed in its original signed and inscribed wooden box (tomobako)—a traditional mark of authenticity and artistic origin.
