This exquisite Kyoto ware tea bowl, crafted by Kato Shozan, embodies the refined aesthetics of the Ninsei style, inspired by the legendary 17th-century potter Nonomura Ninsei. Featuring a meticulously hand-painted golden fan motif, the design is enriched with imperial carriages (Gosho-guruma) and seasonal flowers, creating a composition steeped in tradition and cultural symbolism.
The golden fans, symbols of prosperity and refinement, unfold gracefully across the bowl, carrying the imperial carriage, a mark of Heian-era nobility. Seasonal flowers weave through the design, reflecting the beauty of nature and the passage of time, central to Japanese aesthetics and the tea ceremony.
Together, these elements create a sense of harmony, fortune, and elegance, turning each tea moment into a tribute to history and artistry.
Encased in its original, signed wooden box.
