This distinguished pair of tea bowls, crafted by renowned Raku potter Shoraku Sasaki, embodies the essence of Daitokuji school tea aesthetics. Inspired by the revered Fuji, hawk, and eggplant motif, these bowls carry deep auspicious symbolism, as these three elements—“Ichi-Fuji, Ni-Taka, San-Nasubi” (First Fuji, Second Hawk, Third Eggplant)—are believed to bring good fortune and prosperity in Japanese tradition.

One bowl, finished in deep black, radiates quiet strength and elegance, while the other, in rich red, symbolizes warmth and vitality. Their square form, a rare and striking departure from conventional tea bowls, reflects a bold yet refined artistic sensibility, harmonizing innovation with tradition.

Adding to their historical significance, the set bears an inscription by Kobayashi Taigen, the head monk of Daitokuji Kobai-in, a temple deeply rooted in Chadō (The Way of Tea). This connection ties the bowls to a legacy of Zen practice and tea philosophy.

Housed in an authentic wooden box for two bowls and accompanied by a ceremonial cloth.
