This exquisite Black Raku tea bowl, crafted by Yoshimura Soraku, exemplifies the profound heritage of Raku ware. The Yoshimura family has been dedicated to the art of Raku pottery for generations, with their kiln, Rakunyu-gama, established in Kyoto since the Meiji era (1868–1912). Notably, Yoshimura Rakunyu, a third-generation master craftsman, continues this esteemed tradition, creating both traditional and innovative Raku pieces.
The bowl's deep black glaze, achieved through meticulous low-temperature firing, is characteristic of Raku ware's unique aesthetic. Hand-formed without the use of a potter's wheel, each piece reflects the individuality and spirit of its maker, embodying the principles of wabi-sabi—the appreciation of imperfection and transience.
